Autism Service Dogs!

Dogwood4Todd Jacobs and his service dog will present at the U.C. Davis M.I.N.D. Institute in Sacramento, California on Tuesday, May 8th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Todd will share his personal experiences with using a service animal for Asperger's Syndrome, and answer questions about how service dogs can support those with autism spectrum disorders--especially high-functioning adults.

We are very happy about Todd's visit, and consider it an exciting step in self-advocacy for the autistic community. Please join us to learn more about the autism service dog movement. We look forward to seeing you there!

Heavy Metals, Con Artists, and Conspiracies, Oh, My!

Collage10For Autism Awareness Month (which is this month) , Margaret Romao Toigo
has written this compact overview regarding the politics of Autism. I thought she did a good job summing up the issues and the psychology behind the issues. Toigo is the mother of four children and as a parent, has experience with autism. Her article provides welcome information to those who are not familiar with the controversies raging in the community of autistics and those related to us. Visit Toigo's blog and watch her videos of her and her kids. I love them! I hope she makes more.

Bev, a fellow aspie whose motto is "Who moved my theory of mind?" has her own blog called Asperger Square 8. The blog is beautiful and clearly shows, among other things, her many interests including floor tiles, wallpaper, brick, rocks, squares and other rectangles, stones and pebbles, textures, and the number 8.

Urville!

NoiseAutistic Paul Tehrin has spent twenty years inventing a city. His art is fascinatingly detailed. He has a website and a book.

Phobics Among Us

AttackSome, maybe even many, of us autistics are plagued by panic attacks and phobias. Although composer Allen Shawn is not autistic, his description of his phobias match many of my own experiences.
